Lake Tahoe ski resorts come in all shapes, sizes and styles

Alpine Meadows has 2,000 acres of challenging terrain with over one hundred trails and offers snowmaking equipment on eleven of thirteen lifts. The summit elevation is 8,637 feet with a vertical drop of 1,800 feet. Alpine Meadows has a rental and repair shop, day lodge with large sun deck, bar, restaurant, cocktail lounge, cafeteria, on-mountain snack bars, sport shop and more.

Squaw Valley USA spans six Sierra peaks with 4,000 acres of open-bowl terrain promising something for everyone. Abundant California sunshine is complemented by an average annual snow pack of 450 inches. At the mountaintop paradise, High Camp – elevation 8,200 feet, there is ice skating, plenty of dining options and a family snow-tubing area.

Northstar is a top-rated family destination ski resort with activities and conveniences suitable for families of all ages. It has 2,420 acres of downhill terrain while cross-country skiing enthusiasts can explore 50 kilometers of challenging trails. They also offer slope side accommodations, a central village, restaurants and shops, snowshoeing, tubing, snowmobiling and licensed childcare.

Sugar Bowl was home to the first chair lift in California and the first gondola in the nation. To complement Sugar Bowl’s memorable style and famous customer service, they have recently made a number of major improvements including four new express quads and a 20,000 square foot day lodge.

Diamond Peak, the resort has 6 chairlifts, 30 runs, open glades, and tree skiing in 655 acres (2.65 km2) of terrain. It has a vertical drop of 1,840 feet (6th longest at Lake Tahoe). Its season ranges from December to April, and its longest run is 2.5 Miles. Lifts include the “Lakeview Quad” which features a view of Lake Tahoe during the lift’s ascent.

Other great lodging in the area includes Homewood Mountain Resort with 1,260 acres and Mount Rose with 1,000 acres.
